Kossuth Lajo  was a Hungarian lawyer, politician and Governor-President of the Kingdom of Hungary during the revolution of 1848-49. He was widely honored as a freedom fighter.

Drinking alcohol is a must in Hungary’s social life.

2. The Hungarian Revolution on October 23, 1956

Another important historical event in Hungary is the 1956 Revolution.

It was a nationwide revolt on 23 October of 1956, sparked off by a student demonstration against the pro-Soviet Hungarian People’s Republic. The revolt was brutally suppressed by the Soviet Army and thousands of Hungarians were killed in the revolt.

1. The National Day on March 15

March 15 is Hungary’s the National Day on which they commemorate their War of Independence against the Austrian-Hapsburg rule in the 1848 Revolution.

Many Hungarians wear the cockade (a badge) on their National Day (March 15).

The Holy Crown displayed in the Parliament, representing the long history of Hungary. It is believed that the crown belongs to Stephen I of Hungary (Szent István király), who is the first king of the Kingdom of Hungary.
